Announcing channelthing beta – the one without the channels

Dear friends of channelthing,

after a few weeks of development, we’re glad to give you an update of our current work.
First of all we deployed some bugfixes tonight. Our current alpha version should run a lot smoother now.

Tonight’s bugfixes

- the post’s attachments are rendered by document type now
- fixed some download issues for large files
- deployed a new welcome page (there will be a screencast in the next weeks)
- shaped the email template and added a list of the post’s attachments to it
- user images now have an alt-attribute for better distinguishability of default avatars
… and several tiny issues.

Mmmh, kthx, fine. But what’s next?

We do appreciate all your feedback we’ve received in our feedback channel, via twitter and email! Thank you guys a lot! We take care of all your issues with channelthing and think about every idea for improvement twice and finally we’ve decided to develop some major changes.. it’s time for the next version of channelthing: “the one without the channels” :-) .

The one without the channels

“Ehm, so what’s channelthing without the channels?” – “A lot more fun. We promise!”

Don’t worry, we’re not gonna destroy your channels. It’s rather a major architectural change we’re working on to make this app easier to develop, maintain and most important: to provide more flexibility to our users. With “channelthing beta” you will be able to:

- move posts from one channel to another
- post messages in several channels at the same time
- search for posts across all your company’s channels
- browse all your company’s posts in smart folders instead of separate channels
- send and forward emails directly into one or more channels – attachments included

And because every major update seems even major, when there’s something new to look at, we’re working on a complete rebuild of channelthing’s user interface right now. The alpha look & feel was nice, but the new one.. mmmhhh.. can’t wait ;-) .

So, we hope you’re as curious as we are at the moment and we’ll keep you posted about our beta version.
We’re really working hard on pushing it online as soon as possible.

Yours,
Michael, Jan and Tim
